Grocery stores don't seem to have been enough for Amazon, as the online behemoth now has its eyes set on department stores.
The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the company plans to open several department-like stores in the future. The first outposts will open in Ohio and California and will be about 30,000 square feet in size, much smaller than the typical department store and in line with the size of the Amazon Fresh grocery stores.

"It is unclear what brands Amazon will offer in the stores, although the company’s private-label goods are expected to feature prominently," sources told The Journal. "Amazon approached some U.S. apparel brands roughly two years ago with the idea of opening large-scale stores that would showcase their products."
No word on when the new stores will open and if any are on the horizon for the DC region.
