Architect Travis Price Lists Unique Rock Creek Park Home

Architect Travis Price, who recently made UrbanTurf headlines for the proposed shipping container residences he designed near H Street, is putting his own residence in Rock Creek Park on the market. The home was listed four years ago, but didn’t find a buyer.

If you have ever looked up while driving along the stretch of Broad Branch Road NW that runs through Rock Creek Park, then you may have caught a glimpse of the home. At night, the glass that makes up the entire rear section of the home is illuminated like an 18th-century streetlight.

The land that Price’s home sits on, which he told The Washington Post in 2008 “took every penny [he] had to buy,” is fairly steep and so the property is actually suspended above the ground, supported by a series of steel rods that are buried deep in the earth. To the untrained eye, it seems as though it is hanging on the edge of a cliff.

The 3,500 square-foot house has three bedrooms and three full baths, but the living/dining area appears to be the focal point of the property with soaring ceilings and views out the glazed glass wall into the park below. The master bedroom is located on the top floor of the home and is surrounded by glass on four sides.

The home at 2805 Chesterfield Place NW (map) is asking $3.399 million, and is listed by John Mahshie of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty.
