Renters in the DC area take note: If you write a review about your current home, you may not have to pay rent again for the rest of your life.
On Tuesday, Apartments.com launched a sweepstakes in which twelve renters will win free rent for a year and one lucky person will have the site pay the rent for the rest of their life.

“Apartments.com, powered by CoStar, today launched a Rent for Life Sweepstakes promotion offering apartment dwellers the potential opportunity to live “rent free” by submitting a review of their current apartment to Apartments.com,” a press release read. “Over the course of the 12-week program, from July 20 through October 12, Apartments.com will randomly select one winner per week to receive free rent for a year, for a total of 12 winners. Then at the conclusion of the sweepstakes, Apartments.com will randomly select and announce one winner to receive free rent for life.”
Needless to say, there is some fine print associated with the sweepstakes. The most important disclaimer is that the Rent for Life prize is “awarded as monthly payment of current rent up to $1,700/month without future adjustment.” To put that in DC terms, it is about the monthly rate on a studio or small one-bedroom in the city. We suspect that the contest winner will decide to walk away with the case prize offering of $545,000.
