From the Gridbid website
A new website aims to make it easier and cheaper for interested home owners to install solar panels on their roofs.
Gridbid, a website that launched nation-wide this week, is a platform where homeowners can connect with solar installers.
Interested consumers post their roofs on the website. Then, installers sift through the options and make bids. Gridbid caps each auction at four, and the installers have the opportunity to differentiate themselves and offer a competitive price. The home owners pick the most appealing one, and the two parties take it from there.
By gathering interested consumers in one place, the website attempts to save the solar installers money they would otherwise spend on marketing or scouting potential locations. The website is free for consumers, while the solar installers pay a fee when they find a customer.
Before their country-wide launch, Gridbid tested the concept in California and auctioned off $300,000 worth of roof space within the first week, reported The Daily GOOD.
