Airbnb Is About To Start Stocking Kitchens For Guests

Airbnb is experimenting with a new way to make short-term stays feel a little more like home.
Bloomberg reported Wednesday that the home-sharing company has teamed up with Instacart for a pilot program that allows guests to pre-order groceries directly through the Airbnb app ahead of their visit. The “kitchen stocking” service, set to launch January 5, will be available at select rentals in Phoenix, Orlando, and Los Angeles.
As part of the test, Airbnb will pay hosts $25 for every completed grocery order, and an additional $100 for their first one, if they agree to receive and unpack the groceries before guests arrive. Guests will be able to place Instacart orders up to three weeks before check-in, offering a new level of convenience for travelers who want to skip the post-arrival supermarket run.
Bloomberg reports that the grocery initiative builds on Airbnb’s recently launched “Services” platform, which debuted earlier this year with offerings like in-home massages, personal chefs, and fitness sessions. CEO Brian Chesky has said that Services and Experiences could eventually add more than $1 billion in annual revenue, though he acknowledged that it may take time before these categories become a significant part of Airbnb’s business.
