$40,000 Above For A Flounder House 

Alexandria's two-bedroom flounder house -- a home named after the flatfish due to the slope of the home's roof -- was under contract in four days, and sold last week for $40,000 above its asking price. Flounder homes were likely built by colonial residents due to their low cost and ease of construction, and rustic wooden ceiling planks in the dining room, bedrooms and kitchen are a visual reminder of the home's history. Though both bedrooms have sharply angled ceilings due to the shape of the home, the shorter wall space is efficiently used to offer recessed shelving and storage. Skylights throughout the house ensure that there's no shortage of sunlight. Along the side of the home, there is a fully fenced area with a stone path that would make a wonderful garden or area for a pet.
