A developer has filed plans with DC's Historic Preservation Office (HPO) to turn the former funeral home at 621 Florida Avenue NW (map) into a three-story, 7-unit residential development. The BeStudio-designed project has an interesting mix of units. Each residential level will consist of a four-bedroom apartment and a one-bedroom apartment, according to the floorplans.
At its height from 1950 to 1980, the Hall Brother funeral home was performing up to 140 funerals a year, according to a 2019 article in The Washington Post. That number had dropped to four funerals a year by 2018.
