A 40,000 Square-Foot Public Park Has Been Pitched For Union Market
An initiative is in the works to bring a public park to DC's Union Market district.
The Union Market District Parks Foundation has been in discussions with DC since last spring to create a nearly 40,000 square-foot park on the city-owned parcel located behind the Theory apartment building at 300 Neal Place NE (map).
Initially pitched as a dog park, Reginald Shaw-Richardson of the Union Market District Parks Foundation tells UrbanTurf that the plan has evolved into a space that will include open green space, a children's play area and a dog park.

"We are currently in the planning phase and will be organizing community meetings and seeking public feedback to ensure that the park meets the needs and desires of Union Market District residents," Shaw-Richardson told UrbanTurf.
The estimated cost of the park would be $3.5 million. UrbanTurf will continue to monitor the progress of park as discussions continue with the city.
