The Chinatown/Mount Vernon Triangle hotel scene continues to grow.

FILLAT+ Architecture is seeking Historic Preservation Office review of a concept to retrofit the six commercial rowhouses from 507-517 H Street NW (map) into an 11-story, 238-room "lifestyle hotel". The Washington Business Journal reports that the developer is contract purchaser Acumen Cos.

Plans identify the hotel as Hyatt's new "Caption" concept. The hotel will include a 2,765 square-foot ground floor "Social Space" bar/lounge, a 2,765 square-foot "Caption Jazz Club" on the lower level, and a 15-foot penthouse with rooftop bar with terrace.

The 19th-century townhouses at the addresses will be restored to their original appearance, removing a bay window added in the 20th century which contains a cooktop. Signage affixed to the façade of the rowhouses will include writing in Mandarin.
