66-Unit All-Affordable Development In Shepherd Park Opens Its Doors

A new affordable development near the northern tip of DC is opening its doors.
Beech Tree Place, a 66-unit building in Shepherd Park, officially opened on Tuesday. The Lock7 Development project received bond financing and low-income housing tax credits through DC's Housing Finance Agency, as well as financing through the DC Department of Housing and Community Development‘s Housing Production Trust Fund and from the National Housing Trust Fund.
The units at the five-story development will range from studios to three-bedrooms. Thirteen apartments are reserved for tenants earning at or below 30 percent of area median income (AMI) and the remaining units will be restricted to households earning up to 60 percent of AMI. Amenities at the building, designed by Torti Gallas Urban, include a community room, bicycle storage, and fitness room.
Beech Tree Place is just the latest affordable development to move forward in the region. Here are some other projects in the works:
