4.32%: Another Week, Another Interest Rate Record

Thirty-year fixed-rate mortgages dropped to 4.32 percent this week, according to Freddie Mac. That beats last week’s already-historic 4.36 percent, which was the lowest on record since Freddie Mac started keep tracking in 1971.
In other optimisitc yet unexpected housing news, the National Association of Realtors announced today that pending home sales nationally rose 5.2 percent in July. Pending sales are those home sales where contracts have been signed but the deal has yet to close. While the news is encouraging, pending sales were down 19 percent compared to a year ago.
