Following the success of The Hecht Warehouse at Ivy City, Douglas Development set to work on a second, industrial-chic apartment community in DC. Brookland Press consists of more than 100 unique floorplans and two buildings in Brookland: The Foundry, 157 apartments in a refurbished printing press; and The Forge, a new luxury building housing an additional 139 apartments. Both buildings (map) include studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments with rents starting at $1,815/month. The new project is now leasing.

Though the overarching style of the property is modern, each building has its own distinctive details. The apartments at The Foundry are slightly more industrial in style, with walnut cabinetry, cement columns and floor-to-ceiling windows. The Forge units are more contemporary, with features like oversized windows and sleek white cabinetry. Shared spaces in both buildings, like the lobbies, have a polished, eclectic vibe, with stained concrete floors and plush mid-century furniture.

The Foundry and The Forge are linked by an amenity-rich terminus. Among the indoor amenities available to residents are a large, sun-filled gym with floor-to-ceiling windows, a yoga studio, a resident lounge with fireplace and wet bar, and a gaming room. The roof of the terminus features a pool and panoramic views, while courtyards feature bocce courts, grill stations and a fire pit lounge. There is a separate roof top terrace with views of the Washington Monument and Capitol Building.

Brookland Press is pet friendly and, in addition to a dog run, there is a pet spa and grooming station. Residents also have access to a bike garage fully outfitted with individual bike slots, a bike repair station and a bicycle-themed vending machine. While garage car parking is available, and Brookland Press is located directly across the street from the Rhode Island Metro station and the shops at Rhode Island Row.
