152-Room Aloft Hotel Pitched For Mt. Vernon Triangle Site
A new hotel has been pitched for a development site in downtown DC that has seen a number of concepts floated over the years.
A plan for a 152-room Aloft hotel has been filed with DC's Historic Preservation Office (HPO) for the site at 923-927 5th Street NW (map). The hotel, designed by Fillat + Architecture, will rise 11 stories and incorporate the historic facade of the Director's Deli building.

"The hotel's design concept is that of an urban, vertically-proportioned glass and metal box that sits on top of concrete columns or piloti, into which the historic facade plugs," the HPO application states.
The first time a design concept for this 5th and K site was pitched was in September 2016 when the Peebles Corporation proposed a 10-story, 40-unit condo building with ground-floor retail. In the following years, a number of other concepts, primarily hotels, were pitched for the site, which UrbanTurf chronicled in a 2021 article.
