Big plans are in the works for Arlington's RiverHouse community.
JBG SMITH has filed plans with Arlington County that would add approximately 1,000 new residential units to the 36-acre development bounded by Army Navy Drive, South Joyce Street and South Lynn Street (map). Currently, there are 1,670 units at RiverHouse, spread over three towers.

The newly filed plans call for the construction of almost 1,000 new residences built in townhome and townhouse units and two six-story multifamily buildings, per a press release. The townhomes will be built on under-utilized surface parking lots while approximately 750 apartments will be located in two six-story buildings built between the James House and Potomac House rental buildings. JBG SMITH's plans also call for central courtyards within each building and 30,000 square feet of community-oriented street-level retail.
RiverHouse sits just outside of National Landing, the newly dubbed neighborhood where Amazon's second headquarters will be located.
"It is our goal to deliver additional housing units concurrent with Amazon’s occupancy of its new headquarters to help meet anticipated new housing demand and mitigate upward pressure on rents in National Landing,” JBG SMITH Executive Vice President Andy Van Horn said in a statement.
