Takoma Park: More Than a Little Bit Quirky
Takoma Park has developed a number of nicknames over the years due to the left-leaning views of its residents. The town, just on the other side of DC's northwest border, became the first nuclear-free zone in the US in the early 1980s, and the first Maryland municipality to legalize gay marriage. Moves like these, combined with an eclectic housing stock, only bolster Takoma Park’s liberal reputation.
