Bungalow With a Deceptively Small Facade

Though this bungalow looks very modest from the street, the deep-but-narrow nature of the layout conceals a large amount of living space. The main level leads back to a sizable master bedroom and a very large family room, and behind that is the back porch (and hot tub). The upper level is a little more makeshift: it looks like an attic was converted into an area with two bedrooms and a small bathroom. The current owners dug out the basement to a useable size, but it is not completely refinished yet.

Renovated Split-Level in One of the Fastest-Selling Zip Codes in the Area

As we reported earlier today, Alexandria has some of the fastest-selling homes in the DC area. This listing is in the 22305 zip code, where the homes are selling in just 4 days. This split-level feels maze-like on the interior, with a constant stream of corners and steps to negotiate. Our favorite space is the backyard, where an expanse of grass leads out to a tiered garden.

Craftsman With an Extensive Master Floor

While the main floor of this craftsman has a variety of uses — a couple bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a porch and back deck — the upper level exists solely for the owners of the home. The extensive master suite takes up the entire floor, and includes a sitting room with space for a couple comfy couches and a nook for a desk. Because it was built on the attic level, the closet doors look like they lead to half-sized areas fit for gnomes. The listing also has a finished basement.

  • Price: $779,000
  • Bedrooms: Four
