For this installment of What X Buys, UrbanTurf rounds up some options for would-be homebuyers in the DC area with an $875,000 budget.

A Wood-Filled House on a Wooded Lot

On a 1.65-acre lot in the Montgomery County town of Cloverly, this 4,200 square foot timber-clad house has a post-and-beam style throughout. The living room has a 24 foot-tall pitched ceiling with three sets of windows on top of each other and a stone panel fireplace. The formal dining area is open to the kitchen, where the breakfast bar island practically has its own room and has access to the rear patio on one side and a sunroom on the other. An office on the main level has floor-to-ceiling built in shelving units and a separate entrance. There is a one-bedroom apartment with separate access above the two-car garage, and the property also has a blueberry patch, garden areas, a playground, and a horse stall barn.

Mixed Media One-Bedroom House in Georgetown

A block from the C&O Canal, this one-bedroom end-unit rowhouse has a whitewashed brick exterior and a mix of masonry materials appointing the interior. On the main level, the kitchen has white painted brick walls, a brick fireplace, exposed white painted beams, and floating glass shelves. Glass blocks surround the door to the bathroom, creating a backsplash above the sink; the washer/dryer is here amid a wall of custom storage. The living room has a picture window and a wall of built-ins creating an office area next to the blue-painted fireplace. The stairs lead directly up to the carpeted bedroom where there is a seating nook, and the en-suite bath has brick and slate walls. The house also has heated floors, and the brick-enclosed, alley-accessible rear patio has wooden storage benches and a brick fireplace.

A Transitional Semi-Detached in Brightwood Park

This Wardman-style rowhouse was recently updated with a transitional interior. The open main level creates open sightlines from the front to the back door, creating triple exposure in the living and dining areas. The L-shaped kitchen has a huge island and granite countertops, and the backdoor leads out to a deck with treetop views. On the second level, the owner's bedroom has a cove ceiling which creates an alcove above a closet and an en-suite with a skylit frameless glass shower. The lower level has tiled floors and a wet bar in the corner opposite from the rec room, as well as a bedroom and full bath. A garage door secures the rear parking pad/patio, which also has an entrance to the lower level.
