Politics and Prose, the local bookstore near the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Nebraska Avenue NW, is up for sale, according to The Washington Post.
The Post reports that owners Carla Cohen and Barbara Mead, who started the store in 1984, are ready to sell. Cohen is seriously ill, according to The Post.
Politics and Prose became a neighborhood institution over the years and slowly reinvigorated a stretch of Connecticut Avenue near Tenleytown that for years was lined with fairly unimpressive restaurants and businesses. (Comet Ping Pong and Buck’s Fishing and Camping are now popular destinations on the block.)
Authors can be found speaking at Politics and Prose nightly and well-known novelists like Calvin Trillin and Salman Rushdie make the bookstore a regular stop when they are touring the country promoting a new book.
