This started today for Whole Foods, which will only allow customers who are 60 or older to shop for the first hour of operation. At Safeway and stores owned by its parent company, customers who are elderly, pregnant, or immunocompromised, will have from 7-9am to shop alone on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Also starting today, Target is implementing something similar as it cuts back all store hours to close at 9pm. The first hour of shopping after the stores open on Wednesdays will be reserved for vulnerable populations like the elderly and immunocompromised.
Update: Giant Food has also announced that, as of Friday March 20th, their stores will reserve 6am-7am daily as a shopping hour for individuals who are 60 and older or immunocompromised.
