This Week's Find: A 5,500 Square-Foot Maze

Contemporary homes are typically identifiable by their many windows, white walls and smooth features. This Week’s Find shakes things up with jagged angles, hidden rooms and more stairs than you can count.

View from the entry
Looking at photos of the Arlington four-bedroom is disorienting: balconies are visible behind open staircases and hallways and stairs bend around each other. Its huge size (5,500 square feet) also allows for some unexpected, maze-like layout choices, including hidden landings and rooms within rooms.
The builders, who constructed the home in 2001, spared no expense in creating cool spaces, like a rooftop hangout area with tables, a hammock, astroturf and potted plants. The master bathroom has a super-sized tub (an UrbanTurf favorite) as well as a shower with several nozzles.
Outside, spiral and stone stairways lead to various lounging areas (we counted at least three). Along with all of the stairs, the home also has an elevator, complete with a checkerboard floor, for those who want a little help traversing four levels.
