This Week's Find: A Repositioned Palace for Palisades Pioneers

Although This Week's Find went under contract yesterday (24 hours after being listed), its history is too interesting to ignore.
The house fronting Sherier Place at this address has a lot of history behind it — literally. The Palisades property, set on the former route of the Georgetown-Glen Echo streetcar, previously hosted a 1935 Sears kit house built by Ida and Henry Marien. The Mariens are considered "Palisades Pioneers" and Ida Marien was known for her environmentalist efforts, including the stormwater pond she created on their double lot.
From 2004-2006, architect-builders Jeff Stoiber and Allen Curtis drained the pond, moved the original house from the front to the back of the lot, and built a new 6,250 square-foot house where the first one stood.

The original house was retrofit to create two single-car garages separated by a hallway/foyer. One of the garages provides entry to a 1,000 square-foot one-bedroom unit with a kitchen/living room on the ground floor and a bedroom suite with abutting attic space on two sides.
Meanwhile, the new main house echoes the Arts and Crafts style typical of the neighborhood with features like molding, built-ins, and four fireplaces. However, the house also doesn't skimp on modern conveniences, including an integrated Bose sound system, a media room with projector, two laundry rooms, and stacked closets that give the future owners an easy way to install an elevator.
The house also retains a generous amount of yard space overseen by a balcony off the owner's bedroom upstairs and an angular screened-in porch with ceiling fan on the ground floor. Additional images and details are below.
