This Week's Find is a Chevy Chase cottage with a converted garage.
Stonework frames the driveway to what once was the garage at the four-bedroom listing. The interior walls are solid stucco with dark-stained wood trim, including in the foyer, which has a display window facing the living room. This room boasts a 15 foot-high post-and-beam pitched ceiling, along with a floor-to-ceiling, wood-burning brick panel fireplace.
Around the corner, the hexagonal dining room has a domed post-and-beam ceiling, tiled floors, and two sets of french doors that open out to the slate-paved side patio. Back inside and one step up, the updated kitchen has wood veneer cabinets with minimalist hardware, marble slab countertops and backsplash, strip lighting, and an induction cooktop beneath a concealed hood.
The two bedrooms on the main level both have double exposure via the original casement windows with louvered shutters; these share a bath with subway-cut travertine tiles surrounding the tub and climbing the walls. The loft-like uppermost level has a diamond-shaped skylight above a built-in desk ledge in one corner, and a built-in bed with shelf in the other corner.
Lower level living space comes courtesy of the former garage and houses the family room, a built-in cabinet at the base of the stairs, the second bath, and a laundry room. The backyard is surrounded by vegetation and has two stone paver patio areas, one of which is near the shed in the far corner.
