World Housing has a vision: to help people in developing nations find housing. And in order to do that, the organization is taking a cue from TOMS shoes.
Like the popular company that gives away a pair of shoes for every pair it produces, World Housing helps construct homes in poorer countries for homes it builds in the United States.

According to FastCo. Exist, it took the idea five years to come to fruition after the founders, Pete Dupuis and Sid Landolt, met TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie on a flight to Vancouver. They founded World Housing in 2013 and now luxury condos purchased in downtown San Diego’s Pacific Gate development can translate into the construction of 64 new homes in the Philippines.
To participate, real estate developers donate a portion of their budget to World Housing, which uses this money to create local factories to build affordable homes in developing nations.
“Our mission at World Housing is to create social change by connecting the world to be a better community, so the idea of ‘community’ is foundational to how we think, design, and create our homes,” says Dupuis.
