It all started at a June ANC meeting.
Stephen Starr, the Philadelphia restaurateur behind buzzy DC eateries Le Diplomate and St. Anselm, was outlining vague plans for a new Georgetown restaurant, assuming that the word would not get out beyond the attendees at the community meeting.
“You need to all be sworn to secrecy because I’m going to tell you a few things about what we’re going to do here that we really don’t want to be released to the press,” he said.
Of course, the word was out in the press the next day and the anticipation for another Starr restaurant in DC began.

Plans were formally filed with DC's Historic Preservation Review Board in August for the new restaurant: a 312-seat Italian eatery at the former Dean & Deluca location at 3270 M Street NW (map)
The restaurant, designed by New York-based design firm Roman and Williams, would have a variety of different components including a mozzarella bar, a prosciutto bar and a large oval cocktail bar, as well as a small Italian marketplace.
A month ago, Washingtonian reported additional details, including Los Angeles-based chef Nancy Silverton's involvement. The Georgetown spot will be an outpost of Silverton's Osteria Mozza, serving thin-crust pizzas, homemade pastas, roasted meats, fish, and vegetables, in addition to fare from the aforementioned mozzarella and prosciutto bars.
So when will this hyped restaurant open? Our guess is six to nine months.
