DC is a town replete with high-end homes that appeal to the city’s growing, well-heeled clientele. So, finding a listing that should be highlighted above all others for a given year is not an easy task. Here is our favorite for 2019.

UrbanTurf's favorite luxury listing of the year is also the most expensive home to ever be listed in Chevy Chase, DC.

Built almost a century ago, 5320 27th Street NW was listed in September for $11.75 million. The five-bedroom, eight-bath estate spreads out over 13,000 square feet at the edge of Rock Creek Park.

The home has a number of luxurious amenities, including a movie theater, walk-in wine cellar, and tennis courts and pool, but its inclusion on our year-end list has a lot to do with its interesting historical aspects.

The wrought iron fence and gates of the home came from The White House, after the previous gates at the presidential residence were not deemed adequate enough following an attempted attack on President Truman in 1950. There is a Civel War cannon on the grounds, as well as an old trolley station in the rear gardens that once stood in front of a U.S. Senate office building.

The home is co-listed by Patrick Chauvin of Compass and Eileen McGrath of Washington Fine Properties. More details and photos below.
