Turnberry Tower
We last reported on Turnberry Tower back in early May, just a few weeks after the project had resumed settlements upon resolving a lien issue that had prevented any sales from closing.
Sales had been strong its first month back on the market, and vice president of sales Dan Riordan was bullish on the building’s prospects, despite the fact that Turnberry Tower is a very high-end product selling into an anemic economy. “We think May will be as good as April was,” he said at the time. “In fact, I’m hoping it will be better.”
Fast forward six months and Turnberry Tower is still seeing strong sales. The project just closed its 100th sale, and the project is selling 10 to 12 units every month, a sales pace that makes Turnberry one of the fastest-selling projects in the DC area, according to an area research firm.
By comparison, the fastest-selling project in 2009 was CityVista in Mount Vernon Triangle (now sold out). It typically sold 12 to 15 units per month, but its units were considered mid-market whereas condos at Turnberry start in the $600s.
Riordan said there is a good mix of buyers, including young professional first-timers, empty nesters, wealthy buyers from overseas who want a pied-à-terre in the US capital, and a few Washington Nationals (four to be exact).
The 26-story Turnberry Tower is located in Rosslyn, a block north of the Metro station (map). It has 246 units, over 80 percent of which have direct elevator access. The smallest available floor plan is a 1,322 square-foot one-bedroom, so units are roomy. All units have at least 300 square feet of outdoor terrace space.
