Foggy Bottom Whole Foods
On September 6, DC’s fourth Whole Foods store will open in Foggy Bottom. Today, UrbanTurf, along with other media, got a look inside the high-end grocery store that will serve downtown professionals and GW co-eds.
The Residences on the Avenue
The 38,000 square-foot store is located on two floors at 2201 Eye Street NW (map), on the lower level of The Residences on the Avenue, a 335-unit apartment building that started leasing earlier this year.
While inside it looks just like any other Whole Foods, the store does have some different offerings from its sister locations. When it opens next Tuesday, the new location will have the usual array of expensive seasonal and local meat and produce, but it will also offer sushi from nearby Kaz Sushi Bistro and made-to-order burgers. There will also be a first-ever for a Whole Foods store: a prepared food kiosk, where those coming in for just a sandwich or piece of pizza, rather than a full-fledged shopping trip, can order and pay for their food without having to stand in line.
The store has 80 underground parking spaces as well as bicycle racks, and Whole Foods representatives said more of the latter are on the way.
Finishing touches being put on lower level.
The new Whole Foods will join Trader Joe’s as one of the few grocery store options for those in the Foggy Bottom and West End neighborhoods. It was announced last August, a few months after Whole Foods opened its eighth Maryland location in Friendship Heights. Whole Foods has three other DC sites in Logan Circle, Glover Park and Tenleytown.
