The plans to replace the Days Inn on Arlington Boulevard (map) with 251 multi-family units and around 3,000 square feet of retail are coming into focus.
New plans filed with Arlington County last week provide the first renderings for The Arva, the eight-story project designed by STUDIOS Architecture.

The development will include a number of new community benefits, perhaps most notably the transformation of Wainwright Road into a greenway leading to the Arlington Boulevard Trail network.
“The architecture, landscaping, and homage to the site's history will help create a distinctive corner and complete the "gateway” into the neighborhood,” project documentation said.
Prior to becoming a Days Inn, 2201 Arlington Boulevard was the site of the historic Arva Motor Hotel built in 1955. Though the original plan was to preserve some of the historical facade and signage of the Arva, this won’t be possible because of durability issues, according to the site plan application. Instead, the hotel will be remembered by a “distinctive lobby and a new blade sign.”
