A home on the market in Georgetown that is one of the oldest residential properties in DC just found a buyer.
Prospect House, an eight-bedroom 9,000 square-foot home at 3508 Prospect Street NW (map), went under contract with contingencies earlier this week. The home is listed for $12.5 million with Kimberly Gibson and Eileen McGrath of Washington Fine Properties, and is the most expensive home on the market in Georgetown.
Prospect House, thought to have been designed by U.S. Capitol architect William Thornton, has quite a storied history. Built between 1787 and 1793, the home served as the guest house for The White House during President Truman's administration, and has played host to Marquis de Lafayette, the Shah of Iran, the President of France, and the poet Robert Frost over the years.
The listing has a number of bells and whistles, including a banquet-sized dining room, a parlor with two fireplaces, a swimming pool, a three-car garage and a watch tower where "the early owners watched his boats come into Georgetown Harbor," according to the listing description.
