President Obama's NYC bedroom.
Two years ago, UrbanTurf reported that the New York City apartment where President Obama lived when he was a student at Columbia University was up for rent. The Upper West Side two-bedroom was asking $1,900 a month, a pretty decent rate for a Manhattan apartment, but a substantial increase from the $360 a month that the president paid for a room in 1981. Now, perhaps because of the cachet associated with its former tenant, that same unit fetches $2,400 a month and AOL Real Estate has a video tour of the digs.
The apartment looks pretty simple and if we know Manhattan landlords, it likely hasn't been updated much since the prez lived there. Regardless, we imagine demand is pretty high for this unit if only for the cocktail conversation starter that the lucky renter will have.
For readers that like looking at "celebrity" real estate, UrbanTurf is launching a site next month that will satisfy your needs: dozens and dozens of bigwigs, and the homes where they lived throughout DC. For a sneak peek, email us at editor2012@urbanturf.com.
