New Home Sales Unexpectedly Increase in October

New home sales unexpectedly increased last month.
There were 632,000 new home sales in the U.S. in October, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, up 7.5% from the September rate of 588,000. Despite the month-to-month increase, new home sales are still down 5.8% compared with October 2021.
Homes priced above $500,000 made up nearly 50% of new home sales in October, up from 41% in September. In contrast, homes priced between $300,000 and $499,999 made up 39% of sales in October, down from 51% in September.
