The Micro-Unit Poster Child Hits the Market

The LifeEdited apartment, a poster child for multifunctional small living spaces, can now be yours for just under $1 million. The co-op at 150 Sullivan Street in New York City (map) hit the market recently for $995,000.

The 420-square-foot apartment was built out with flexible furniture, plenty of storage space and a movable wall, allowing it to transform into eight different rooms based on its owner Graham Hill’s needs. It became a leading example of the movement toward small, flexible spaces and micro-units, and is outfitted with top-of-the-line flexible furniture (most from Resource Furniture, including an expandable table that can seat 12, a Murphy bed with a weighted shelf and even a bunk bed that pops out of a wall, ladder included.)

Resource Furniture-like designs can now frequently be spotted in renderings for proposed micro-units, including those planned for the Wharf.

Hill’s design also included a projector instead of a TV, two built-in, drop-down desks and a separate room for the toilet that doubles as a phone booth for private calls. In the kitchen, a drawer-style dishwasher, fridge and freezer save space. A great video of how the apartment transforms can be found here.

But $1 million is still buying you just 420, albeit multifunctional, square feet in Manhattan — that same amount could, on average, buy you roughly 2200 square feet in DC.

“Move in with just a suitcase,” gushes the listing. We’re pretty sure that can be read two ways.
