A residential conversion could be in the works for a large portion of the mall at the center of Georgetown.
Jamestown, the owner of the Shops at Georgetown Park on M Street (map), has filed for conceptual review with DC's Historic Preservation Office to add windows to the west side of the building to accommodate the potential first phase of a residential conversion. The site is zoned for mixed-use and already has some condominium units overlooking the C&O Canal.

The proposal would include converting over 128,000 square feet of retail and other space in the building to residential units. Architect The Eisen Group is currently conducting a feasibility study.
The unit mix would include micro-units and one- and two-bedrooms with lofts; the 639 existing below-grade parking spaces would remain. As reported by the Washington Business Journal, there could be a total of up to 166 new units.
