A month after the grocer broke ground on its first location in DC, Lidl Food Market is moving toward opening a second.
On Tuesday afternoon, Lidl and Mayor Bowser's administration announced the grocer's plans to open a 27,000 square-foot location on the ground floor at the DC USA mall in Columbia Heights (map). The site is diagonal from a Giant grocery store.

"This new store, along with our project under construction at Skyland Town Center, are steps towards achieving our goal of conveniently bringing Lidl's high-quality offerings and unbeatable pricing to the D.C. community," Daniel Goodman, Lidl U.S. Director of Real Estate, said in a statement.
Lidl's first DC location is expected to deliver at Skyland in Ward 7 by the end of the year; it would be the first new supermarket east of the Anacostia River in over a decade.
