The Howard Theatre opened in 1910 at 6th and T Streets NW, closed in 1970, and reopened briefly in 1975 before closing its doors for several decades. Last night, UrbanTurf attended an event that is part of a week-long celebration for the reopening of the iconic theater. Trombone Shorty and George Clinton helped bring the music back to a place that once hosted the likes of Marvin Gaye, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald, among many, many others. Some photos of the event and theater below.
