Last June, the Zoning Commission voted for a one-year extension of approval for a development on the vacant lot at the corner of Florida Avenue and North Capitol Street NW (map). Now, as the clock begins winding down, the development team is moving forward with the approval process.
Designed by Bonstra | Haresign, the project will have 85-95 residential units above approximately 5,000 square feet of cellar-level retail. Owner Joe Mamo has submitted the plans for the mixed-use project to the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) for design concept approval.

The seven-story project looks largely unchanged from the renderings which have been floating around for a few years, maintaining its near W-shaped footprint. The planned-unit development originally received zoning approval in 2007.
The site is in the Bloomingdale Historic District. An HPRB hearing has not yet been scheduled.
