Halcyon House
Halcyon House, the second most expensive home to go under contract in DC in 2011, officially sold yesterday for $11 million. The home in Georgetown was originally listed for $15 million, then the price was reduced to $12.5 million and the eventual buyers (pharmaceutical tycoons Ryuji Ueno and Sachiko Kuno) got a discount beyond that when all was said and done.
The house, located at 3400-3410 Prospect Street NW (map), is the second massive estate in Georgetown that the couple has purchased. They also bought Evermay back in July 2011 for 50 percent of its original sales price.
Built in in the late 1700s by Benjamin Stoddert, Halcyon House has gardens that were designed by Pierre L’Enfant and at one point was owned by the nephew of Mark Twain. For years, the estate has been used as both a residence and as a venue to host weddings and other lavish events.
