Donohoe Development presented conceptual renderings of the proposal for 5151 Wisconsin Avenue NW (map) at a December meeting of ANC 3E. After the broadcast company vacates the site in June 2021, the office building and radio tower would be razed and replaced with 280 apartments and 17,000 square feet of commercial space.
A six-story, 230-unit pentagonal building with penthouse would stand 70 feet tall facing Wisconsin Avenue, potentially housing a restaurant on the ground floor with sidewalk seating. A narrow four-story building with appended three-story stacked flats would face 42nd Street, separated by an alley from the rest of the housing. There would also be 230 underground parking spaces, and roughly 8 percent of the units would be inclusionary zoning.
The ANC did not vote on the proposal last month, although commissioners and many attendees expressed optimism. Assuming the community is supportive, the developer could file for a PUD in 2020, potentially allowing work to begin in 2022.
