The Foundry Loft Exterior

Yesterday, JDLand posted some photos and first impressions of the much anticipated Foundry Lofts in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. The prolific Near Southeast DC blogger visited the rental project (hard hat on head) and took a bunch of photos of the partially finished lofts. She found some tasty tidbits, including a yoga studio in the central courtyard, a spiral staircase in the unfinished penthouse, and a cannon, apparently found buried under the building site, standing at attention in the lobby.

The lofts are housed in one of the naval factories found in the Navy Yard, much used in the World War II-era. The building, built in 1918 and once known as Building 160 and the Pattern/Joiner shop, makes Foundry Lofts one of few true industrial lofts in the District.

From JDLand:

The 170-unit building is now about 43 percent leased, and the first residents are expected to move in at the end of this month. And within the next month or so, Potbelly Sandwich Works and Kruba Thai and Sushi will start work on their ground-floor spaces, with both looking to open during the first quarter of 2012.

Rents will start at about $2,000/month for one-bedrooms and go up to $4,500 for the corner penthouse that offers views of nearby Yards Park, the Navy Yard and the Anacostia River. The lofts are located at 301 Tingey Street SE (map).
