Equity Residential’s mixed-use project on I Street NW in Mount Vernon Square is ready to break ground in August, reported DCmud this morning.

The $57 million development, which will occupy the buildings that sit at 443-459 I Street NW (map), will include 174 residential units and just over 2,000 square feet of ground floor retail.
The developers are working with Hickock Cole Architects and have created a variegated complex, with two historic row houses in the center and several more modern buildings spiraling up in height beside and behind them. There are a few different colors, materials and shapes within the design.
As we reported in the fall, the site was formerly home to several hipster-ish tenants, including Gold Leaf Studios, an artists’ work and play area, and BicycleSPACE, which has relocated to 1019 7th Street NW.
