Egyptian Diplomatic Property Hits the Market on Massachusetts Avenue

Over the past two years, several embassies and diplomatic entities in the District have put properties on the market, be it the embassy building itself, a former ambassador's residence or adjacent vacant parcels. Now, another diplomatic property has joined the fray.
The 6,500 square-foot rowhouse at 2232 Massachusetts Avenue NW (map), most recently utilized by Egypt as a bureau of commerce and economics, has been listed for $4.25 million. This property is just a block from another embassy-turned residence that turned up on the market exactly a year ago.
Many properties in DC owned by foreign governments have been in the news lately for being a nuisance to neighbors, as several have been cited for neglect and disrepair. A bill was introduced in the DC Council last year that would enable the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs to register diplomatic properties as vacant and blighted, although any power to require foreign governments to do something about those properties would lie with the State Department.
