Bold face names continue to make real estate headlines in McLean, Virginia.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Jeff Skoll has purchased two homes in McLean. Skoll was one of the first presidents of eBay and now has an ownership stake in the Washington Capitals.

Skoll closed on a five-bedroom, 9.5-bath home -- completed this year -- on Halloween for $10.5 million. The Journal noted that he is also set to pay $6.5 million for Elmwood, an adjacent 8-acre estate.

 From the Journal:

Elmwood was about to be listed for $22.5 million with plans for a new house. Skoll decided to buy it and plans to restore the property, including the existing circa-1905 main residence.

The Skoll acquisitions are just the latest high-priced listings in McLean to make headlines.

In July, a 6,000 square-foot home once rented by Queen Noor of Jordan hit the market on Tuesday for $15.9 million. In September, the nearly 12,000 square-foot McLean house of the former Washington Nationals pitcher and World Series champion Stephen Strasburg sold for $8.55 million. And on Halloween, the eight-bedroom, 35,000 square-foot home in McLean known as The Cliffs (map), given its location perched above the Potomac River, sold for $25.5 million.
