The Eataly in New York City
At an event on Tuesday, Eataly founder Oscar Farinetti said that the Italian eatery will expand to Los Angeles, DC and Philadelphia, according to a tweet from cookbook author Francine Segan. As is Eataly’s style, no more details were provided.
UrbanTurf learned a few weeks ago that Eataly has signed a letter of intent for between 30,000 and 35,000 square feet of retail space at the planned Capitol Crossing project above I-395 of Massachusetts Avenue NW (map). The expected delivery date for the massive Italian gourmet market-bar-restaurant combo is pegged at around 2017.

Eataly is an Italian food lover’s dream. The New York City location includes 50,000 square feet of Italian restaurants, wine bars, bakeries and food stands that has become a favorite destination of foodies and tourists alike. Developed by Property Group Partners, Capitol Crossing will include four office buildings, totaling 1.9 million square feet, and one 150-unit residential building, as well as five levels of underground parking and a retail component. The plans also include public spaces, like a promenade and outdoor plazas, and on-site child care.
Earlier this week, Eataly’s Cristina Villa told UrbanTurf that they did not wish to comment on the timing and location of the DC Eataly.
