DC’s long-awaited Costco will be opening its doors for the first time on November 29th.
The anchor tenant of Dakota Crossing, a 42-acre development in the Fort Lincoln area of Ward 5, the 154,000-square-foot super store will be located at the corner of New York Avenue and South Dakota Avenue NE (map).
Right now, the closest Costco for DC residents looking to buy toilet paper in bulk is in Pentagon City, and city officials are happy to welcome the (very) big box store to the District. According to DCist, who cites DMPED, the Shops at Dakota Crossing are expected to bring in $634 million in tax revenue over the next 30 years.
In addition to a Costco, The Shops at Dakota Crossing will eventually include a Shoppers Food Warehouse and Marshalls. The adjoining residential complex, dubbed the Villages at Dakota Crossing, include 334 condos and townhouses.
