DC October Housing Report: Prices Up, Sales Down

The National Association of Realtors has reported that existing home prices in the DC area were up 8.4 percent compared to October 2009, but year over year sales have dropped of almost 24 percent. Prices nationally dropped 0.9 percent compared to a year ago.

Existing home sale statistics include completed transactions for single-family, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops.

NAR chief economist Lawrence Yun on what last month’s national stats means for the housing recovery:

“The housing market is experiencing an uneven recovery, and a temporary foreclosure stoppage in some states is likely to have held back a number of completed sales. Still, sales activity is clearly off the bottom and is attempting to settle into normal sustainable levels.”
