The Washington Examiner is reporting that the District Department of Transportation is calling for fares on DC Circulator buses to increase to $2 for riders using cash, and $1.50 for those using SmarTrip fare cards. The current fare is $1 for all riders.
From The Examiner:
DDOT spokesman John Lisle said it’s unlikely that the fare increases would begin before October, when the city’s new budget begins. The timing also depends on the city’s $320 million budget gap, he said, and what needs to be done to close it.
The fare increase would be the first in the Circulator’s six-year history. The bus system now has six routes and provided almost five million trips in 2010.
