DC will allow some students to come back into physical classrooms starting November 9.
Mayor Bowser announced Monday that preschool and elementary students that are learning English as a second language or are experiencing homelessness or have special education needs will be able to return to school.
Other students (preschool to 5th grade) will also be able to virtually learn in a classroom setting that is supervised by non-teaching staff.
The city says that it will be able to accommodate 21,000 students through these two measures, amounting to 75% of the elementary school population.
“Learning at home has been positive for many of our students because of the extraordinary work of our teachers,” Ferebee said. “We also know at this time that learning at home is not working for every student.”
