A new program was announced in DC on Monday that will add some artistic flair to the city's vacant properties.
DC's Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) launched the Vacant-to-Visual Program, which will showcase DC-area artists of color who are transforming vacant buildings into artistic sites. The pilot program is launching with five vacant properties across the city.

"The artists will use trompe l'oeil decals, original art, and vibrant colored designs to beautify each property in the program and improve the aesthetics of each neighborhood where an included property is located," the DCRA press release stated.
Last year, The Washington Post reported that DCRA flagged nearly 3,000 properties in DC as being blighted or empty.
