CostToDrive Application May Be of Use to Home Buyers

With gas costs rising on an almost weekly basis and the price for the lowest grade hovering around $4 a gallon, prospective home buyers may think twice about purchasing in an area that requires them to drive to and from work each day. The CostToDrive application or C2G can help figure out what those daily costs might be.
The application, which is not new having been created in 2008, uses a “galculator” to help people discover how much it costs to drive between two destinations in the U.S. Users enter an origin address, a destination address, and select the year, make, and model of their car, and CostToDrive looks through its database for the vehicle’s average highway mileage and the current cost of regular unleaded gas to calculate the cost of travel. CostToDrive also shows the distance of the trip and how many gallons of gas it would consume.
So, if you drive a 2004 Honda Accord from Bethesda to 15th and K Street NW each day, it will cost you $2.50 roundtrip. However, if you drive a 2005 Cadillac Escalade from Woodbridge, Va. to downtown DC, it will cost you close to $7 each way. That same drive in a 2007 Toyota Prius would cost $1.82 for each trip.
