car2go launched in DC in 2011 and the blue and white, two-seater smart cars could be seen all around town starting in 2012. Users pay a one-time fee and then can access cars around the city via a mobile app. Drivers are charged by the minute, and car2go covers gas and insurance. Unlike other car-sharing services, car2gos offered point-to-point service which was convenient for drivers making a one-way trip.
The initial car2go fleet of was approximately 300 vehicles, but now there are more than 150,000 users in DC, so the loss will certainly be felt in the area.
